Taking the paperwork out of fumigation management plans

By Adam Jungwirth

Fumigation is already a complex operation before the paperwork even begins. For growers using products such as Metam Sodium, particularly potato growers in the Pacific Northwest, regulatory requirements can include detailed Pre- and Post-Fumigation Management Plans documenting how, where, and under what conditions an application will take place. Getting that documentation right is important, but much of the information required often already exists somewhere else in your farm records.

That’s exactly the kind of duplication of effort we want to remove from your list of daily tasks. Agworld can use information already captured as part of your normal agronomic workflow to help populate fumigation management plan templates, making it easier to turn the data you’re already recording into the documentation you need.

From application data to a fumigation management plan

A lot of the information needed for a fumigation management plan isn’t new information. Field details, application information and other relevant records are often already being captured when an application is planned, recommended, executed, and recorded. Traditionally, creating the required fumigation documentation can mean taking that information and entering it again into a separate document.

Agworld’s fumigation management plan functionality helps eliminate that double handling. For growers required to complete Pre- and Post-Fumigation Plans, Agworld can automatically populate Metam Sodium templates using structured application data already stored in Agworld. Rather than building the documentation from scratch, you’re able to use the same information that forms part of your existing field and application records.

The resulting documentation can also include field maps that visualize the fumigation area, helping provide clear context around where the application took place. It’s a relatively simple change to the workflow, but when fumigation is a regular part of your operation, reducing repeated data entry can add up to a significant administrative saving over the course of a season.

Better records without creating more work

Compliance is one of those areas where more documentation can easily mean more administration. Our focus at Agworld is to avoid that trade-off wherever possible. When the information needed for compliance is captured as part of the same workflow used to manage agronomic activities, that data can be reused instead of continually being re-entered into different systems and documents.

For fumigation, this means the information used to plan and record the application can also help create the required management plans. It reduces the opportunity for transcription errors, helps maintain consistency between application records and compliance documentation, and gives you as a grower a more efficient way to manage a process where accurate and timely records matter. This follows Agworld’s approach to compliance: keeping agronomic information structured and centralized so it can be used for reporting and regulatory requirements when needed.

Make fumigation part of your Agworld workflow

For operations where fumigation is an important part of crop production, compliance shouldn’t need to sit in a separate workflow from the rest of the farm. Your fields, agronomic recommendations, application details, maps, and completed records are already connected in Agworld; fumigation management plans allow more of that same information to be put to work.

If you’re creating Pre- and Post-Fumigation Management Plans manually today, talk to myself or anyone else on the Agworld Customer Success team about how Agworld can help simplify the process. By capturing information once and using it throughout the workflow, you can spend less time recreating paperwork and more time managing the application itself.
