Agworld is proud to announce it is collaborating with the Western Australian (WA) Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s (DPIRD) PestFax program. PestFax is an informative and interactive reporting service on pests and diseases threatening crops and pastures throughout the grain belt of WA. Its weekly updates throughout the growing season provide readers with risk alerts, current information and advice.
Agworld and DPIRD, with the support of the Elders WA Agronomy group, are now trialling a new way of collaborating to allow reports of insect pests, diseases and weeds to flow easily and directly from the Agworld platform to the PestFax service. Agworld Australia General Manager Simon Foley remarks: “We feel that anything we can do to aid the farming community in feeding useful information back to those government institutes that can turn this into tangible advice for fellow growers, is really using the strength of the collaborative farming solution that we offer”.
DPIRD believe that by increasing the number of pest, weed and disease reports to PestFax, more information can be compiled over time to return valuable insights to the industry. Agworld records containing pest, weeds or diseases matching a predetermined set of crop/pest/disease combinations are sent as an anonymous report to PestFax. It is important to understand that the data is anonymised to allay and address data privacy concerns.
Agworld head of Product & Marketing Matt Collins sums it up as follows: “Our aim has been, from the very beginning, to offer a collaborative solution to farmers and their trusted partners. There has been widespread grower adoption which has resulted in large volumes of quality farm data being added to Agworld daily, enabling Agworld and our customers to create these type of synergies for the industry. We firmly believe that this is still only the beginning; the amount of data driven solutions that Agworld can offer to the agricultural sector is really endless”.
