Timing is everything when it comes to farming and being able to create spray records, work on budgets or tweak crop plans, at any time and anywhere, is critical for every grower. No one wants to spend extra time in their office in the evening if they could’ve done that same work during the day when they were in the field, which is why Agworld’s Android app is such an important step forward for so many of our customers who don’t have an iPhone.
For years, many farmers have told us the same thing: “I don’t want to have to switch from Android to Apple just to use the Agworld app.” It’s a fair point of course and Trent Whitwam, Operations Manager for Dalby, QLD based Kantara farming, admitted he even considered moving to iPhone at one stage, but in the end, “everything in my house is controlled by Android. That’s the only thing that kept me with an Android phone”. Switching devices sometimes simply isn’t realistic.
But, with this year’s release of Agworld’s Android app, this barrier has been removed.
Built for how our Customers work
The goal for our development team was simple: deliver the same Agworld experience Android users have seen on iOS for years but design it natively for the devices they already carry. From recording jobs in the field to reviewing recommendations and creating spray records, the Android app makes it possible to use Agworld on any mobile advice running the Android operating system.
For Trent, who uses Agworld alongside farm owner Ben Johns, the app means no more double handling of information or waiting until he’s back at his computer: “When we’re working in the paddock, I can go into Agworld and create an action plan for the year. We’ve only been using Agworld for a year and I’ve learned heaps just by doing all the spray recs through the app… now we really want to start running everything we do through Agworld”.

Easy, Familiar, Reliable
One of the things we’ve heard most from growers is the importance of ease-of-use and simplicity of our software and apps. Nobody has time for clunky, over-engineered software when they’re trying to get jobs done in a busy schedule.
Trent summed it up well: “For me the Android app is heaps easier than Apple, as I’m not used to using an iPhone or iPad. It’s very user-friendly… the format’s a lot easier and a lot quicker for me”.
That’s exactly the kind of feedback we hoped for. Growers don’t want to battle Ag Tech; they simply want to be able to use it like any other user-friendly technology they’re used to in their daily life. In the case of the Agworld Android app, it needs to help capture data throughout the day and then help to make decisions throughout the season.
Staying connected, even when you’re not
The reality of farming is that patchy reception is part of daily life. That’s why we’ve made offline functionality a core feature of our Android app, which is the exact same as our iPhone app. You can record data, update tasks, and review cropping plans even when you’re out of service, and everything will sync once you’re back online.
As Trent points out, the benefit is more than convenience: “I really can’t fault the Android side of the app. It’s set up really well, very easy to navigate, and I can’t say anything bad about it”.
What this means for you
If you haven’t started to use Agworld yet because you’re not keen to switch from Android to Apple, now could be a good time to reassess your digital farm management information needs; our Android app brings the full power of Agworld to the phone that’s already in your pocket. That way you don’t have to compromise on choice of phone, or delay your record keeping until you get back to the office at the end of the day.
For Trent, like many other growers, it’s simple: “I think Agworld really can benefit us in the long run”.
The Agworld for Android app is already available in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa - with the team currently hard at work on a version for our USA and Canada based clients!
