Change management for AgTech: making Agworld stick

Change management for AgTech: making Agworld stick

I recently joined Agworld, but change management in agriculture isn’t new to me. Before Agworld, I worked alongside growers, agronomists, and ag retailers in Canada and the USA through roles with Proagrica and Telus, helping them adopt new tools and processes. Across every role, one lesson kept repeating itself: technology doesn’t fail because it’s bad, it fails because it never truly becomes part of how the farm operates.

I’ve seen farms invest in good software, only to fall back on notebooks, whiteboards, and text messages when things get busy. Plans are made in one place, work happens somewhere else, and records are filled in later - if at all. The result isn’t just wasted software spend; it’s frustration, mistrust in the data, and eventually abandonment of all the good ideas and intentions.

Successful habits

What I’ve learned is that successful adoption has far less to do with features and far more to do with habits. The farms that succeed with technology don’t try to change everything at once. These growers focus on a small number of core workflows that matter most and build team discipline around them. That’s one of the reasons Agworld resonated with me so much when I joined: Agworld is designed to fit into how farms already work, not force growers to reinvent themselves overnight.

A 90-day mindset

The most effective approach I’ve seen is a simple 90-day mindset. In the first phase, farms narrow the scope. Instead of digitizing the entire operation, they focus on getting the grower/farm/field structure right and committing to recording planned and completed jobs in Agworld. This alone creates immediate value. When everyone is working from the same field structure and the same plan, confusion drops fast.

The second phase is about building consistency across the board. This is where most farm management information systems fail, not because they’re hard to use, but because expectations are unclear or not communicated at all. Farms that succeed with Agworld set a few non-negotiables: jobs are completed in the system when the work is done, recommendations are tied to fields, and plans are reviewed regularly. Not perfectly, but just consistently.

From my past roles, I’ve learned that resistance often isn’t about technology. It’s about perceived extra work. The turning point comes when people feel relief: fewer phone calls, fewer “did this get done?” moments, fewer mistakes. Agworld starts saving time before you even try to generate reports. Ever heard of ‘discipline equals freedom’? Turns out that this principle is just as applicable to farms as it is to Navy SEALS… If you’re disciplined with recording your completed jobs in Agworld, you’ll have more freedom in the form of fewer ‘hey, did you do this?’ calls from your boss.

In the final phase, adoption compounds. Once planning and execution are reliable, everything else becomes easier: compliance, collaboration with advisors, end-of-season analysis and much more. Because Agworld connects intent, action, and outcome at the field level, farming operations don’t have to reconstruct their season, it’s already there.

One thing I’ve come to believe strongly is that consistency beats perfection. Farms don’t need flawless data to get value from Agworld. They need data they can trust. And trust comes from using the system the same way, day after day, even when it’s busy. Having worked across different parts of the ag industry, I’ve seen plenty of tools come and go. The ones that last are the ones that quietly become part of daily operations. That’s where Agworld shines. When it sticks, it doesn’t feel like “using software”, it feels like running a better farm.
